The J Division Tactical Troop had members serving in the security contingent at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. While there they saw the crest created for the E Division Tactical Troop and wanted one for themselves. However, the RCMP Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in Ottawa, no longer allows members to use any portion of the RCMP badge or even the RCMP name when creating items for their own use. This was discovered after a first draft had been done based on the E Division crest which was enthusiastically adopted by the troop. [Shown at right] Needless to say there was disappointment over the IPO’s decision on the design. So a new design, eliminating all traditional regimental references to the RCMP badge had to be designed. Below is the result.
