Thoughts About Working at the Speed of Modern Business

Today’s business world is a seriously competitive place. At the bottom of the heap are those who failed to plan or failed to follow a plan through …right alongside those who didn’t or couldn’t react, change, adapt or compensate effectively to suddenly changing conditions or circumstances.

It’s been my experience that having a skill set spanning multiple disciplines provides a distinct competitive advantage because decisions, and the implementation of those decisions, are always close at hand …not out-sourced and therefore out-of-reach when needed most.

Experience is a catalyst between those skills and the confident, effective decisions and solutions required when push has come to shove at hour eleven …when outcomes become critical and stakes are often highest. It’s the difference between a ‘decisive act’ backed with logical reason, and an ‘emotional reaction’ to circumstances unexpectedly in flux.

In the final analysis, centralized planning and implementation delivers a clear and obvious continuity in the visual, textual and presented material placed before an audience of one or an audience of many …audiences who are more skeptical and discerning nowadays than ever before.

I’m of the opinion that ‘good work’ is something one does each day as a matter of course …one’s ‘best work’, however, is that which we do when the pressure is on, the chips are down and the buck needs a place to stop.
