The new Chief of Police wanted the department’s uniform patch updated and wanted
a badge design similar to the Police Officer’s Association Badge, particularly with the
new eagle top.
This patch redesign required that the city seal be recreated from existing, old
artwork. Below is the best copy of the original they could provide. To do the
recreation required doing substantial research to identify certain elements in the
supplied image that could not be properly recreated without knowing what the
original object was and what it actually looked like. Seals often contain elements
from history which can make locating images a challenge.
Once the seal had been recreated it was incorporated into the patch shape and color
matched. The badge redesign simply changed a few elements on the Police
Association badge.
A side benefit to this work was that the police department would now have clean and
clear artwork to use in print materials such as business cards and other media.

Incorporating the city seal back into the patch design was fairly straight forward.
some elements did differ because the redesign remained more faithful to the
actual scaling and proportion of certain elements to the actual item.
